On November 17th, 2018 in Mytischi, the 25th Olympics for trade unions of Moscow region universities in sambo took place, in which the women’s team of GSU sports club took the first place, and the men’s team was the third.
It is at this tournament that the best athletes are selected for participation in the Russian Sambo Championship among students, which will be held in April 2019. The champions of the Russian tournament, in turn, are eligible to participate in the World Championship and the Universiade.
The competitions were large-scale, some universities brought almost two teams: the Academy of Ministry of Emergency Situations exhibited about 40 sambo wrestlers, Bauman University (MSTU)- about 30, SGTU (Orekhovo-Zuyevo) - more than 20 students.
Gzhel University students always perform successfully in the regional sports and athletics competition, but if in previous years 8-10 medals were awarded to the sambo wrestlers of GSU sport club, this time they managed to win 17! Eight of them are girls’ awards, they took the first place among female teams of universities of Moscow region. The young men gave way to a strong team of MSTU and with a small margin the most numerous team of the Academy of Ministry of Emergency Situations. They took the honorable, third, place together with the team of SGTU from Orekhovo-Zuevo.
Students such as freshman of the service and tourism department Kristina Jumaeva (first place in weight up to 56 kg) were particularly distinguished at this sports tournament and qualifying tournament. In the final, she defeated Tatiana Plotnikova, one of the strongest athletes, a master of sport in sambo from the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture. Anastasia Salakhova (art department) won first place in weight up to 80 kg. Rufina Saydasheva (service and tourism department) took the second place in her weight categories; Maria Karavanova (Technological Department); Alexandra Evdokimova (art department).
In third place - Devlyatmo Kalimaeva (Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Education); Daria Cherepanova (design department) and first-year students of the art department Yevgeny Galkin and Valery Katyshev.
Among the men among the medalists are the runners-up Bekzod Tashbaev (Faculty of Economics and Management); Firdavs Kalimayev (Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Education); Islam Natov (Department of Physical Culture); Aziz Khudoikulov (Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Education, the direction of Physical Education).
In third place - Danila Melnik (design department); Eric Gevondian (Department of Economics and Law); Ivan Zhigunov (technological department); Daniel Rusakov (Department of Economics and Law). As a result, the University of Gzhel became the first at the Games for the medal standings.
